Zombie Hoard

Zombie Hoard (Slingshot Studios): Review

Zombie Hoard is a 5-reel, 9 betways slot developed by Microgaming partners Slingshot Studios. Playable from 0.90 to 45 Eur a spin across all devices, it’s designed with a whimsical zombie theme and benefits from a free spin feature that you can trigger in two ways.

Visually, it’s got a humorous touch to it and features outstanding colourful, cartoonish graphics. Set against the silhouette of a big city backdrop you’ll see zombie hands on both sides of the reels that start clapping and giving you thumbs up whenever you land a slightly more significant winning combination  – a fun detail that, along with the 8-bit video game inspired background music, enhances the overall experience.

On the reels you’ll find the standard A, K, Q, J and 10 royals as well as 4 different zombies – the chef zombie being the most valuable out of the standard symbols giving you 55.55 times your stake for 5 across a payline. The wild is represented by the Zombie Hoard logo and appears fully stacked on the 3rd and 4th reel in the main game. It’s also the most rewarding out of all symbols and yields 133.33 times your stake for 5 of a kind.

Free spins

Zombie Hoard is mainly about the free spins bonus which you can trigger in one of the two following ways:

  • Keep an eye out for low-value symbols with collectable (brains) tokens attached, each representing a single free spin. When accumulated to 30, the free spin feature is triggered.
  • Landing 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols will also trigger the free spins and allow you to play the bonus with the all the spins collected through tokens. There are up to 34 free spins on offer in total.

Once granted access to the free spins, you’ll benefit from a 2x multiplier as well as super stacked wilds across all 5 reels. That’s pretty much all there is to it.

Zombie Hoard (Slingshot Studios): Verdict

Zombie Hoard is a basic slot that seems to be more about showing off the cool graphics rather than to speak to the gambler in us. With that said, there is something to this game after all that gives us some hope for Slingshot Studios. We don’t mind the simplicity of Zombie Hoard, it’s even kind of refreshing to play a 9-liner in-between all these Megaways slots, and the visual presentation is phenomenal. If only the potential was higher it would undoubtedly have made it more exciting to play. With the current setup, not so much, unfortunately.
