Space Stallion (Stakelogic): Overview
The team over at Stakelogic have been busy recently. Space Stallion is the fourth to cross our path in the last couple of weeks. It has been a mixed bag too from wilderness to oil drilling, Christmas, and now a futuristic space slot with the imaginative name of Space Stallion. Read the official documentation from the developer and the description is so powerfully ludicrous you can’t help but go along with. Case in point – ‘Take your quantum-gun out of your saddlebags and steer your spaceship to the Reels Solar System to look for the fabulous Space Stallion!’ Brilliant. So bad its good and hopefully the rest of the game can live up to the sky-high expectations.
It is off to a good start when the game loads. Space Stallion is a good looking slot, with a dreamy cartoon appearance to it. It’s funny, you can go about your life without ever coming into contact with a futuristic Wild West-themed slot, then within the space of a week, two show up. Looks-wise, both this one and Big Bounty Bill are pleasing, though very different in aim and execution. The symbols on Space Stallion’s 5×3 grid sit on transparent reels revealing more of the neon-lit tumbled down frontier town of the future. Info along the bottom includes the 30 fixed paylines, total bet from 30 p/c to either £/€30 or £/€60 depending on the casino, and the spin buttons. Pick a stake, and it is time to become a ‘gun-wielding outlaw on distant planets.’ Sorry, couldn’t resist a bit more from the epic game blurb right there.
Bringing up the paytable reveals a neon feast of low pay 10 – Ace card royals to start it off. These make way for four better value in-theme picture symbols. The sidekick is up first, followed by a rugged space cowboy, an equally rugged space cowgirl, and the pace stallion as the star of the show. Five of a kind stallions return 20x the stake which is reasonable, but there is a big drop off between it and the other symbols. The cowgirl is the second most valuable, and she is only worth 6x the stake, as a comparison. Space Stallion isn’t a mean game by any means though, with an RTP of 96.11% that is coupled with medium/high volatility. Behind it all lurks a very respectable top prize. Time to load up that ‘quantum-gun’ and find out how to get it, whatever a quantum-gun is.
Space Stallion (Stakelogic): Features
The Stallion symbol can land in two sizes, standard 1×1 or upsized to a 2×2 tile. This helps include it in play more and also incorporate the features. If the 2×2 version lands with a wild symbol in view, then it becomes the 2×2 Jumbo Wild to help pull in more winners. Both types of wild symbols can substitute for any other symbol in the game except the scatter.
The spaceship burning over the planet horizon is the scatter symbol. If three of them land then they award the Free Spins Bonus Game which comes with 8 free spins. Free spins are played with the same rules as the base game with two key exceptions. The first is when the 2×2 Jumbo Wild lands, it becomes a Traveling Wild. Instead of vanishing off the grid on a fresh spin, it moves down one position on each spin instead until it vanishes. Even better is exception number 2. This is a progressive multiplier which increases by 1 with each win achieved during free spins. The last key point is that free spins will continue, even if they are technically finished if there is a Traveling Wild in view on the reels.
Finally, this wouldn’t be the Wild West (or Stakelogic) without an additional gamble feature. As always it revolves around choosing the correct colour or suit of a face-down card for double or quadruple the bet. The gamble feature will continue as long as players choose correctly, up until a limit set by the casino operator.
Space Stallion (Stakelogic): Verdict
Set aside the name which sounds like a pre-teen girls’ cartoon show, and ignore the whack game blurb, Space Stallion isn’t a bad slot. Its fantastical theme offers a nice moment of escapism to somewhere alien and exotic, and the graphics are above average. Bright, weird, and colourful, they carry the action well, and the transparent reels suit it nicely. Mix in fair value symbols, some interesting extra features and the result is a very playable slot. It outshines its direct competitor at the moment which is Big Bounty Bill, and mix in a healthy potential, and the results will appeal to a wide variety of players.
As we mentioned previously, Strikelogic have been particularly productive recently, and each new slot has been entirely different from the last in looks, theme, and gameplay. You never have any idea what to expect next from this team which keeps players on their toes. Where they have been spectacularly consistent is in the area of payout potential. Players will be happy to see that this trend tends to the high side and Space Stallion is no exception with a wins of up to 7,200 times the stake on offer.
Compared to the previous Stakelogic slots we have reviewed recently, Space Stallion is a return to their more whacky, unconventional roots. Football Gladiators anyone? The best thing to do is switch off and let the game do its job. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea by any stretch of the imagination but it is an entertaining slot and rewards are there.
