Raging Rex – Introduction
With a wealth of strong titles such as Banana Rock, Battle Royal, Dragon Maiden, Imperial Opera, Legacy of Egypt and Rise of Olympus, Play’n GO has been one of the market leading providers this year and there’s no sign of them slowing down. In fact, from what we’ve seen and heard, many great things are to be expected in the upcoming year.
Raging Rex is the title of a dinosaur themed slot from Swedish provider Play’n GO utilizing 6 reels and 4096 payways. Packed with potential and eye-popping features, players can benefit from a Rampage feature with stacks of walking wilds as well as Raging Spins with theoretically unlimited re-triggers. Coming in at 8 out of 10 on Play’n GO’s volatility scale, the variance is high but not as ferocious as the blood thirst of the T-Rex thankfully.
Playable on all devices from 0.20 to 100 EUR, Raging Rex is set in a prehistoric forest, more specifically in the roaring territory of the mighty Tyrannosaurus, a dinosaur that roamed throughout what is now the western part of North America, on what was then an island continent known as Laramidia. Visually, it’s quite pleasing to the eye with dragonflies hovering across the screen and a waterfall in the background adding some dynamics to the game. In general, it looks heavily inspired by other dinosaur-themed slots, in particular the Jurassic series by Microgaming.
Raging Rex – Symbols, Paytable & Features
Not entirely unexpected, the low-value symbols are represented by 6 insects encased in amber fossil including scorpions and spiders. You won’t be too surprised to see some of history’s most famous dinosaurs on the cover of the premiums either – Triceratops, Parasaurolophus, Dilophosaurus and Velociraptor, the latter being the most valuable of all symbols, giving you 7.5x times your stake for 5 of a kind. On top of the food chain is the T-Rex, of course, that is the wild, thus replacing all other symbols bar the scatter.
In the base game, the Rampage feature comes into play if a full stack of T-Rex wilds appears on reels 2 to 6. The stack of wilds will turn sticky and then proceed to walk one by one towards the first reel for every subsequent spin. Preferably, you want the stacks of wilds to first appear on reel 6 as it will award you with 5 re-spins. Unfortunately, this feature cannot be re-triggered.
What you really want to do when playing Ragin Rex is to trigger the free spins mode where most of the potential is to be found. 3, 4, 5 or 6 Meteor scatter symbols anywhere on the reels activate the free spins game and 8, 15, 20 or 30 free spins are awarded respectively. Additionally, 2 or more scatters during the bonus awards extra spins with potential for unlimited free spins.
Upon activating the free spins, players are presented with two options – to go for the Wild Hunt feature or the Primal Rage feature:
- Wild Hunt – The stacked wilds are removed, and instead, x2 or x3 multipliers are added to the Rex wild symbols that can combine to multipliers up to x243.
- Primal Rage – Stacks of wilds appears on reels 2 to 6 on each spin and walks to a new reel with each spin.
Raging Rex – Conclusion
Raging Rex is another outstanding slot from Play’n GO. Not only does it come with a bunch of thrilling features, but there’s also plenty of potential packed inside this bad boy as there is a jackpot of 5000 times your stake in the free spin feature. The variance is high, but not brutal by any means, and as such, it appears as a reasonably well-balanced slot. Sure, it’s not the most stylish slot we ever saw but the playability is superb, and that is what really matters.
Be sure to check out the sequel as well. Utilising the same 6-reel formation and slightly less volatile, Raging Rex 2 comes packed with massive potential of up to 30,000 times your total bet.
