Phoenix Fire Power Reels (Red Tiger): Overview
Red Tiger is back with yet another slot in the Power Reels series which basically means a whole lot of reels and rows. The last one, a fruit slot on steroids dubbed Five Star Power Reels, turned out to be a rather generic creation with weak personality that, in spite of its impressive potential, was overshadowed by several strong titles launched around the same time. Inspired by classic Greek mythology, Phoenix Fire Power Reels is the exact opposite of Five Star -it has plenty of dynamism and strong charisma, but does not pack quite as much punch, as you will see.
The Phoenix, as you may know, is a magical bird in ancient Greek mythology associated with the sun, fire and flames. It lived a long life, over 500 years it has been said, before rebirth. The Phoenix is popular with slot producers and turns up quite regularly in new renditions and variations. In this 8 reel, 6 row, 30 payline online slot powered by Red Tiger, you get to experience the legend of the majestic creature in all its glory – watch it fly across the reels to transform multiple symbols into wilds or force wilds to spread onto adjacent symbols like a wildfire. There is a free spins feature available as well where you’ll benefit from enhanced reels.
Visually, Phoenix Fire Power Reels is much more pleasing on the eye than Five Star, that is for sure. The colours are warm, the soundtrack is grand and the animations outstanding. Encased within a golden frame, the reels are set against a scroll, torn and tattered by old age and decorated with various drawings of the Phoenix. Spinning on the reels you will see lower-value card suit symbols joined by rings, spell-books and cups. The latter is the most rewarding giving you 50 times your stake for 8 on a full payline. The wild symbol is represented by the Phoenix itself and appears stacked 3 symbols high. Winning combinations do not have to start in the leftmost reel. Wins will be awarded anywhere on the reel set as long as three or more symbols connecting on a payline.
Phoenix Fire Power Reels (Red Tiger): Features
Another symbol we haven’t mentioned yet is the special winged symbol. Appearing fully stacked on the reels, the winged symbol turns wild if there is a wild next to it. This is referred to as the Phoenix Wildfire feature. Triggered randomly on any spin, you may also see the phoenix fly across the screen to turn all winged symbols wild. The downside, however, is that the winged symbols act as blocking symbols when not activated, which is also usually the case.
Three or more scatter symbols landing anywhere in view initiates the Free Spins game. Starting with 7 bonus spins, you can retrigger the feature if you land another 3 scatter symbols anywhere in view. The free spins round doesn’t stand out too much from regular gameplay, but you’ll benefit from enhanced reels which means up to three 1×3 sized phoenix wilds may land simultaneously on the reels. This, in combination with the effect of the winged symbol, can lead to some decent hits. With that said, the game has a max payout of 1941.5 times your stake which, in our opinion at least, is not all that great.
Phoenix Fire Power Reels (Red Tiger): Verdict
The problem with the Power Reels concept is that it doesn’t make much sense. Some players might find the giant reel set fascinating and may be under the impression that a bigger reel set equals a greater chance of winning. This is not the case, of course, as the game is limited by its 30 paylines and winged symbols that usually block potential wins.
The upside is that it can be quite an entertaining setup as there’s a lot of things to keep track of, and you often find your yourself scanning the game area like a predator looking for prey. Moreover, the visual design is excellent which, of course, make it all the more fun to play. Phoenix Fire Power Reels undoubtedly has all it takes to become a hit with recreational players while hard core gamblers chasing massive wins are more likely to go with something more potent on offer in the Red Tiger catalogue.
