Mystic Wheel

Mystic Wheel (Red Tiger): Review

Mystery, magic and norse legends is on the agenda when you enter the realm of this fantasy-themed slot created exclusively for Red Tiger by the same in-house studio that brought us Devil’s Number. Mystic Wheel is the somewhat lacklustre name of this game, a simple, but slightly unconventional 5×4, 30-payline slot that is likely to divide players into two camps – those who hate it and those who kind of like it. It comes with a Mystic Wheel bonus feature which can be triggered either traditionally by landing 3 or more scatter symbols, or with the help of the randomly triggered Wheel Activator feature. Once in, upgraded multipliers and retriggers can lead to massive wins of up to 10,000 times your total stake.

Visually, Mystic Wheel looks outstanding with an almost tangible sense of mystique and discovery to it. Set in a cave illuminated by northern lights, and with suspensful music playing, the reels are firmly positioned in front of the magical supernatural wheel that is slowly spinning in the background. Spinning on the reels you will come across lower-value card suit symbols as well as more valuable key, ring, medallion and diamond symbols. The latter is the most lucrative, giving you 10 times your stake for 5 of a kind. There is no wild symbol here, nor do the symbols appear fully stacked on the reels. As a result, you get quite a volatile offering with nearly all of the potential loaded within the bonus.

The Mystic Wheel Bonus in action

The main game is pretty much a waiting game to trigger the bonus and there are two ways to do so. On any spin, the Wheel Activator feature may randomly trigger. When it does, the screen begins to shake and the reels, as well as the outer ring of the wheel, light up in a golden glow. You will see extra scatter symbols added to the reels, significantly increasing your chances of triggering the bonus.

The other way to trigger the Mystic Wheel Spins feature is by landing 3 or more scatter symbols anywhere on the reels during regular gameplay. Each scatter will give you one spin on the wheel, with 5 being the maximum from start. Now, this is not a traditional free spins feature as you’ve probably already figured out. Instead, it’s more of a Wheel-of-Fortune type round with several segments on the wheel offering a variety of prizes, though largely dominated by multipliers. The awards on offer are:

  • Double All – if the wheel comes to a stop on the “Double All” segment, all win multipliers are doubled.
  • Multiplier Boost – these segments contain plus signs with numbers on them. If, for example, the wheel stops on a +3 segment, all the multipliers will be increased by 4 (10x becomes 13x).
  • Extra Spins – land this one and you’ll retrigger the feature with x amount of extra spins.
  • Question Mark – if the wheel stops on the question mark, you will either receive a random number of spins or a multiplier boost.

In best case scenario, you can potentially trigger up to 77 spins on the wheel and pocket up to 10,000 times your stake.

Mystic Wheel (Red Tiger): Verdict

Wheel bonuses have been around for ages but are most commonly used as low-paying extras on the side of the main free spins feature. Already sceptical of the rather unorthodox setup, the game comes across as rather limited. The wheel is also a bit too generic and similar to most other wheel bonuses to win us over. The developers would, quite literally, have to reinvent the wheel to be able to sell it to us. Furthermore, to make use of 4 rows while limiting the paylines to only 30 is a classic mistake (in our opinion) that seems pointless.

No, Mystic Wheel won’t make wheels great again, but we do appreciate that Red Tiger puts effort into giving us such a wide range of games, even if not all can be loved by every player. With that said, there is excellent potential on offer here, and as we all know by now, Red Tiger potential is no joke (unlike other providers who claim ridiculous potential) which Casumo’s montly presentations of best performing slots have repeatedly proven.
