Mega Dragon

Mega Dragon (Red Tiger Gaming): Review

Having reviewed a ridiculous amount of Chinese themed slots as of late, we can’t exactly say we were overcome with joy to see yet another one. Like Pragmatic Play, Red Tiger Gaming has an insatiable appetite for the far east, dragon’s in particular for some reason. It’s not made better by the fact that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to remember which one is which.

Released as a LeoVegas exclusive, Mega Dragon is played utilising an unconventional 8-reel, 7-row game engine where you win by landing clusters of 5 or more matching symbols. Land 2 adjacent wilds and you’ll summon one of three dragons, adding wilds, transformed symbols and mega tiles as they fly past the reels. You can play Mega Dragons on all devices from 20 cents to 20 Euros per spin.

The game has a traditional Chinese feel, strongly resembling other Asian themed Red Tiger slots. With clay coloured mountain peaks shrouded in mist in the backdrop, the designers seek to establish pure aesthetics through abstract art. The backing track, well you can probably already hear it in your head. On the reels you will find A to 10 card values as well as more rewarding banners, pearl ornaments and coins. The top symbol is the golden pot which will give you 888 coins if you land a cluster of 25 or more.

When 5 or more matching symbols line up horizontally or vertically adjacent to each other, a win is created. The winning symbols are then removed and new ones fall down to replace them. This cycle repeats as long as new wins appear on the reels.

Mega Dragon (Red Tiger Gaming): Features

Swap feature in action

There’s no free spins feature to trigger here, hence why you won’t see any scatters. Instead, it’s all about the dragon wilds. Not only do they perform the usual duties of the wild, but if you land 2 of them adjacent to each other, you will activate one of the three dragon features:

  • Green Dragon – when the green dragon is summoned, it will clone one of the low-value symbols and transform it into one of the premiums.
  • Golden Dragon – when the golden dragon is called upon, a random number of wilds are added to the reels.
  • Red Dragon – when the red dragon is awakened, it chooses one of the premiums which is then expanded and transformed into a mega tile that can be 2×2, 3×3 or even 4×4 in size.

In total, you can land wins of up to 3888 times your stake which is not all that bad. Furthermore, Mega Dragon also comes with progressive jackpots that the operator can choose to activate for the game.

Mega Dragon (Red Tiger Gaming): Verdict

Disregarding the rather generic theme, Mega Dragon is a solid cluster slot that offers decent payouts. The huge 8×7 reel set along with the frequently triggered dragon features is enough to carry the game without missing a free spins feature. It might not be the most interesting or innovative of slots but it comes with a clean design, some potent features and well-balanced gameplay.

There’s also heavy emphasis on the progressive jackpots that can grow quite massive. As we write this, it’s at 104k EUR (LeoVegas) and waiting to pop.
