Leprechaun Goes Wild

Leprechaun Goes Wild (Play’n GO): Overview

Play’n GO is back with yet another Irish themed slot titled Leprechaun Goes Wild. Interestingly, the phrase ‘Luck of the Irish’ comes partly from attributing success of Irish migrants solely to luck rather than hard work. Somewhat stereotyped but if that luck is contagious then let’s go with it. Leprechaun Goes Wild is a rather simple looking slot with a 5 reel, 4 row grid that makes use of 20 fixed paylines. on which you need to land three or more matching symbols for a payout. The game is set in the verdant green Éire countryside on a partially cloudy day. To the left and right are two mysterious statures that give the game a pleasant Celtic touch.

Chasing the rainbow starts with selecting bets from 20 p/c up to £/€100 per spin. Looking at the paytable, we see 9-A royals draped in colourful plant life. The high pays are all clichéd leprechaun symbols such as horseshoes, beer mugs, pipes, hats, and a pot of gold. Out of these standard symbols, the pot of gold is naturally the most lucrative at 20 times the stake, though not the highest in the game. That honour goes to the Wild symbol, which is worth 40 times the stake. There are 5 wilds in total, one for each reel. They might look different, but they all do the same thing. Namely, substitute for the other pay symbols to form combinations.

Leprechaun Goes Wild is another high volatility Play’n GO slot. With a volatility rating of 9/10, it’s not as brutal as some of the other recent release – at last not in theory. Combine that figure with its high theoretical potential, and you have another all or nothing slot on your hands. Better find the pot at the end of the rainbow before the rain clears or you go home empty-handed. RTP ranges from 84.20% – 96.20% depending on the market. So as always, check that before piling in coins. There’s not much else to the base game rather than combos and wilds so on to the features.

Leprechaun Goes Wild (Play’n GO): Features

The road to best returns is via the scatter symbol which is a four-leaf shamrock. The scatter only appears on reels 1, 3, and 5. It is also wild and can substitute for all other symbols. What you want is three of them in view to be awarded a random 7, 9, 11, or 13 Free Spins. To help players get there, the game comes with a Luck of the Irish feature. If 2 scatters are in view, this feature is activated, and one of two things will happen – either 1 wild symbol is added to each reel, or 1 scatter is added to trigger the free spins.

During the free spins round, any wild that lands becomes sticky and remains in place for the duration of the feature. Scatters do not show up during free spins. However, if each reel has at least one wild on it, then the game awards an additional 3, 5, 7, or 9 extra free spins. Free spins can only be retriggered in this way one time.

Leprechaun Goes Wild (Play’n GO): Verdict

Well, it’s another Leprechaun slot. Whether players needed one more of these is debatable. Still, it’s pleasing to the eye in a minimalist way and packing it full of every leprechaun related symbol reinforces the theme. It literally could not be any more in theme. Pop this thing with a pin and you’d be showered in shamrocks and Guinness. If you like the jolly Irish theme, it might be worth a spin. If Leprechauns are your thing, there are also other slots in the Play’n GO line up that might suit, such as the ’Leprechaun Go’ series. Both slots in that range possess interesting features and wins if you are okay with the medium volatility they come with.

For those ambivalent to the theme it is there any point firing up Leprechaun Goes Wild? It doesn’t offer much novelty when it comes to features though the Luck of the Irish element is a nice addition. It adds suspense when it lands as both of its possible outcomes can be juicy.

Of course, it’s the free spins you want and where the bigger pots of gold can be found. Get in a few sticky wilds early, and good runs of wins are possible. Still, even managing to fill the grid with wilds is worth 800x the stake at the most. Halve that for a screen full of gold pots at 400x. The game might technically have a potential of 10,000 times the stake, but it will require substantial levels of luck to really cash in. Max exposure has a probability of landing of 1 in 100 million, so that really says it all. Players will need some serious shamrock action happening to crack the big money. Sticky Wilds are great, but Leprechaun Goes Wild is one of those slots whose lack of multipliers reminds you just how potent they are.

As it is, Leprechaun Goes Wild is quite a decent game. Visuals and features aren’t as good as other slots Play’n GO has released recently, so it’s not a hugely attractive in that particular regard. However, if you are in the mood for high volatile action with sticky wilds it gets the job done, even if it doesn’t measure up to the likes of Dead or Alive or Dead or Alive 2 which manages to toss multipliers into the bargain.
