Jin Ji Bao Xi: Endless Treasure

Jin Ji Bao Xi: Endless Treasure: Review

Is it just us or do Chinese-themed slots have a tendency to look as exciting as a bowl of rice, forcing you to endure a steady diet of tacky symbolism and traditional background music? This Scientific Games powered slot developed by Shuffle Master even comes with a translation page where we get to learn that the title, Jin Ji Bao Xi, carries the meaning of good luck and good news. Nothing makes you as happy as learning a bit of Chinese while frantically scrolling through the help file in search of actual useful information such as RTP, win potential and volatility.

As you can tell, it’s with agony of mind and utter disgust we’re taking on the task of reviewing Jin Ji Bao Xi. In all honesty, it’s not just because of the god awful generic visuals, the slot is a complicated mess too. But what if there is a golden nugget hidden deep within? It’s our job to find out.

A land-based conversion, Jin Ji Bao Xi comes with 5 reels and 243 ways to win and as can be expected from a jackpot slot, the 95.65% RTP is slightly lower than what we usually see in online slots. You can play it from between 0.08 to 88 Eur per spin on your computer, tablet or mobile.

In terms of look and feel, it’s pretty much a clone of 88 Fortunes, another Shuffle Master slot released in 2016. It’s basically everything we’ve come to expect from a Chinese-themed slot – gloss and gold everywhere you look. On the reels you’ll see low-value A to 9 card suit symbols as well as higher-value koi fish, turtles, tigers, phoenix and dragons. The animals are all of the same value, giving you 20 times your stake for a 5 symbol combination. The wild symbol is only available in the base game and only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4.

Central to the base game is the All Up feature which allows you to upgrade the standard premium symbols into golden equivalents of even higher value, though to a higher cost per spin. To do this, simply choose level on the meter to the left of the reels. In the top left corner you’ll see a box with all symbols currently activated. With the highest level activated you’ll win 250 times your stake should you land 5 dragons across a full payline.

Shou bonus in action

Jin Ji Bao Xi is a slot rich in features – this is what’s on offer:

Golden Chance feature – can transform any standard premium symbol into its golden equivalent if you land a wild symbol on the middle reel. Winning combinations also benefit from a multiplier of 2x.

Fu Value feature – comes into play in the bonus feature. There’s a coin value attached to the bonus symbol that is randomly chosen from a set of pre-defined Fu values. When they these bonus symbols land on the reels, the values are added to the pot above the reels.

Bonus feature – triggered when at least 6 bonus symbols appear anywhere on the reels simultaneously. Starting with 6 free spins you’ll get 6 options, adding extra golden symbols to the reels during the bonus feature. There’s also a golden coin in play here which acts as a wild and only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4. Also, above the reels you’ll see a pot where all the Fu Value hits are collected. When the round is over, the pot is awarded to you.

Top Up feature – basically a streak spin game, available as a 6th option when you trigger the bonus. The bonus symbols, complete with their Fu value, remain on the reels as respins ensue. What you want is for additional bonus symbols or yellow or green coins to land. When the yellow coin appears, it will give you the total amount from the Fu value bonus coins from that triggering spin. Even better is the green coin, awarding the accumulated totals from it all – the Fu value bonus symbols as well as the yellow coins. The Top Up feature can pay up to 2304 times your stake (Grand Jackpot).

Jin Ji Bao Xi feature – the jackpot feature can also be randomly triggered. This is a picking game, the same type of jackpot feature you’ve likely seen in many other slots. It will ask you to pick until 3 matching symbols appear, which will be the prize you win. There are 4 jackpots on offer here – Mini, Minor, Major and Grand.

Jin Ji Bao Xi: Endless Treasure: Verdict

Jin Ji Bao Xi is not a slot you simply just fire up and start spinning – we recommend you try it out in demo mode first. Initially, we had no idea what was going on and just looking at this cluttered mess gave us a headache. Even writing this review was somewhat a challenge. We appreciate when developers try to come up with new twists and plots, but it gets a tad bit overwhelming here unfortunately.

Boredom sets in quickly partly because the recycled theme. A slot suggests that there’s some sort of meaning to the proceedings, some type of reward for trudging through this nonsense. The only reward you’ll get is the realisation a few minutes in that no one is forcing you to play this dreck, and that you can simply move on. We’re not exactly sure what the max win potential is but as stated in the help file there is a cap of 250 000€ on max bet which equals to 2,800 times your stake.
