Irish Pot Luck: Overview
Top of the morning to you players! Swedish developer NetEnt polishes the emerald once again for a spirited wee trip through The Land of Saints and Scholars. It was tough writing this review without bursting into the musical patios the friendly folk are known for. Seriously, it’s one of those accents you can pretty much say anything and not cause offense. As to the game, it might not be ultra-memorable, but fortunately, there will be no need to adopt the Irish twang to soften a roasting.
Right from the get-go, the laid back Irish charm is apparent. From a screenshot, Irish Pot Luck might appear a little sparse, a little plain, and to be fair it’s not NetEnt’s most dazzling visual feast. However, the look is a pleasing one, all the same, blending effortlessly with the happy-go-lucky vibe. What also helps you slip comfortably into neutral is a jolly wee tune that bubbles away like a stream meandering through the Killarney National Park. For comparison, it has that Finn and the Swirly Spin kind of vibe going on.
Playable across all devices from 20 p/c up to £/€200 per spin, the action here takes place on a 5×3 grid, using 20 fixed paylines. When it comes to the statistical data, RTP is pretty much bang on the average at 96.06% while the leprechaun keeps things breezy on a low/medium volatility. N
The Irish frivolity permeates pretty much all aspects of the game. This, of course, rings through on the paytable where all of the symbols are bold, bright and set in stone. On the low pay side, we get clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades which look like an assortment of iced animal biscuits. Leprechaun styling spills over to the high pays made up of pipes, hats, harps, and horseshoes. A fine assortment of lucky charms to be sure, to be sure.
Values are pretty good, maxing out at 20 times the stake for a line of 5 horseshoes. The wild is also able to pay out in combinations, up to 50 times the stake for five of those. Wilds can substitute for any regular pay symbol, not the specials – where there are quite a few extras to cover.
Irish Pot Luck: Features
Let it rain seems to be this particular leprechaun’s motto as he consistently showers the reels in symbols assisting players as they spin. On any spin during the base game or bonus spins, in a process called the Pot Luck feature, the chubby little leprechaun may pull various special symbols out of his pot and toss them on the reels or, as he teasingly does sometimes, out of screen. Up to 3 scatters or jackpot symbols may be added to reels 1, 3, or 5, or up to 5 wilds may be added to any position.
Central to the gameplay is the multiplier feature. It is active on every single spin where it applies a multiplier to any win that happens to fall. During the base game, this can be x1, x2, x3, or x5, while in the free spins it increases to x2, x4, x7, or x15. Keep an eye on the rotating signpost in the corner of the screen displaying the current multiplier value.
Should you manage to land 3 of the rainbow scatter symbols then 10 free spins are awarded. The only difference between regular spins and free ones is the increased win multiplier mentioned above. Players can extend the round by landing 3 rainbow scatters again to win 10 more free spins.
If you want to win the big money, the pot at the end of the rainbow so to speak, you’ll need to activate the Jackpot Wheel. This happens when 3 jackpot symbols are in view, either during the base game or free spins. Far more frequently triggered than the free spins, the jackpot wheel has 3 tiers divided into several sections, including arrows which move players up to higher tiers.
It is possible to win a multiplier of 2.5x – 10x, the Mini Jackpot, the Mini Jackpot x2, the Mini Jackpot x3, the Midi Jackpot, the Midi Jackpot x2, or the Mega Jackpot. The values of the jackpots are – Mini, Midi, or Mega worth 20x, 100x, or 5,000x respectively.
Irish Pot Luck: Verdict
All up, there is quite a lot to like about Irish Pot Luck, especially for those who enjoy this style. Like most in the genre, the clichés are laid on thick, the setting is a familiar one, plus there is a load of leprechaun involvement. Irish Pot Luck might not be a major adrenaline rush a lot of the time, but engagement levels stay healthy due to a large number of features often in play.
Like picking shamrocks and letting the breeze catch them, there is plenty of activity from the leprechaun as he sprinkles special symbols willy-nilly. This approach keeps the base game fresh, thanks to persistent modifiers in the form of extra wilds and the ever-present multiplier.
There is a trade-off though, which can mean a dearth of free spins, as the game seeks balance. If you can get to it, the Jackpot Wheel offers decent prizes as well, and knowing it can activate at any moment, no matter the game phase, adds a dash of tension to the proceedings.
So no, Irish Pot Luck is not exactly high-octane gaming, for that you’ll have to look elsewhere. But, for some low/medium volatile action, in a pleasant environment, capped with a decent jackpot it could be worth a spin.
