Farm Yarn Favourites: Overview

Gauselmann Group owned Blueprint Gaming has been on a bit of a creative bender recently and Farm Yarn Favourites might be the most unusual one of the batch. At first glance you’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve wandered into a modded Minecraft server where the world has been skinned in wool. But no, don’t adjust your set, all of the symbols and images here are stuffed farm toys, fresh from grandma’s knitting needles. For a lot of players that will be a good thing too. Real farms can be tough, with the mud, animals, and predawn starts, it all sounds like hard work. Surely, it’s better to play a sanitised cute version with a bunch of clean and cuddly characters. Or is it the resulting slot a little too cuddly? Let’s see.

If you haven’t been pre-warned then Farm Yarn Favourites can be a surprise when it first loads. It’s not just big, bright and colourful, the game world is also made entirely of wool, or yarn, as it is also known. There is a youthful TV show vibe going on, like Teletubbies, or something equally off-centre. Yet, on the other hand, the setup is as conventional as it gets with 5 reels and 3 rows in effect. In another uncommon twist you don’t see much anymore, paylines are adjustable with up to 25 available. That means when it comes to selecting bets, players can choose from 1-25 lines with 0.01 to 10 credits per payline. This range works out perfectly for low rollers at 1 p/c per spin and high rollers with up to £/€250. Blueprint also brings back their Power Play option which doubles the bet. We’ll cover what this offers in return in the features section shortly.

For now, let’s get a couple stats out of the way starting with volatility which Blueprint has tweaked to medium/high. It’s often the case that cutesy pie games have a sting lurking nearby. With Farm Yarn Favourites, the RTP could qualify since it’s down a tad from the usual standard at 95.39%. That’s not the friendliest return to player rate we’ve seen recently and rekindles the downward trend which seems to be popping up more frequently.

On a more positive note the game has a colourful paytable that feels like searching for a gift in a baby shop. You don’t see knitted symbols much and Farm Yarn’s start with some expertly woven 10-A royals, followed by a chicken symbol which makes up the low pays. The high pays continue with more livestock such as sheep, pigs, and cows. The barnyard king, however, is the game’s logo which pays out a hefty 200 times the stake for five of a kind when 25 paylines are engaged.

When it comes to winning combos, three of the low pays are required on a payline while the high pay symbols need just two or more. Helping hit combinations is the scarecrow which is wild and substitutes for any of the pay symbols. In default mode without the Power Play active, this cheerful chap also multiplies any win he is a part of by x2.

Farm Yarn Favourites: Features

Free spins feature in action

The scarecrow is handy as a multiplying wild but he has another role as the scatter. In this duty, when 3 or more scarecrows are in view they launch the Farm Yarn Free Spins feature. Landing 3, 4, or 5 scarecrows will trigger 15, 20, or 25 free spins respectively. What juices up free spins is that all wins are subject to an x3 multiplier during the round. Scatter/wilds are still present to add their multiplier capabilities and it means the feature can also be retriggered.

The second bonus game padding out Farm Yarn Favourites is the Cash Tractor Trail bonus. This feature is triggered when 3 tractor symbols are in view. When launched, the game shifts to a different part of the farm where players collect sheep to move along a trail. When collected, sheep are sent off to be shaved in the barn which awards a prize. This process continues to play out until all the sheep have been moved and a multiplier of the total bet is awarded.

Finally a few words about the Power Play option which is starting to pop up now in several Blueprint creations. One neat aspect about this feature is that they all do slightly different things. In this case, when the Power Play is activated, instead of the wild boosting wins by x2 when part of a winning combination, it can go as high as x10 instead.

Farm Yarn Favourites: Verdict

You’ve got to hand it to these cutesy slots. As we mentioned before, they often obscure what is going on beneath the surface. In the case of Farm Yarn Favourites, this applies to potential which is better than you might expect. It goes without saying that the logo is the symbol you want to land and with so much multiplier action going on, wins can rack up quite fast.

For example, a line of logos with an x10 wild multiplier is worth 2,000 times the stake right there. If you happen to hit that during free spins with the x3 multiplier you’re looking at a mental 6,000x win. The odds of that happening will be stratospheric, sure, but it’s an indicator that the game is capable of big prizes. Potential goes absolutely mental when you start doing the maths, but Blueprint has brought it down to earth to a degree. Still, with capped potential of up to 10,000 times the stake up for grabs, these cuddly toys are able to dole out sizeable wins.

On the not so great side, the RTP is disappointing, and the kiddy theme might put some players off. Then again, Farm Yarn Favourites’ singular look could be a draw for others looking for something new to spin. The bonus games aren’t bad either, particularly the x3 free spins round. Those sorts of feature used to come as standard on slots back in the day, but it gets an extra kick with Farm Yarn when teamed up with the scarecrow wild/multiplier.

To sum up, Farm Yarn Favourites won’t appeal to everyone – no game on the outer edges of the bell curve ever could. But for agricultural fans, wool aficionados, or players who want to wrap up in an achingly cute game, Farm Yarn Favourites might be worth a spin.
