Dynamite Riches

Dynamite Riches (Red Tiger): Overview

There’s just something about the gold rush, and prospecting, and that whole Wild West era that goes with gambling like fire and petrol. The themes collide well and have many similarities. There is the thrill of the chase, building one’s own fortune, and the potential for (hopefully) making money. Fortunately for modern gamers, we can sit in the comfort of our homes to try our luck. Spare a thought for those men back in the day that had to stand knee-deep in water with a pan. Or tunnel under the earth in rickety old mine shafts that could collapse at any moment. Red Tiger clearly agree and has provided players with a safe trip underground with a bearded old-time prospector as he puts axe to rock in the hope of striking the yellow stuff.

The hero of this slot looks like he has a part-time gig in nearly every gold mining slot ever made. He’s got that bushy-bearded Santa Claus look we saw in Gold Rush from Pragmatic Play and Diamond Mine: Megaways from Blueprint. Dynamite Riches holds its own against both of those slots visually and with its features. The search for the rich stuff takes place over 5 reels, 4 rows, and 20 fixed paylines deep beneath the surface in a mineshaft. Above the reels is a stick of dynamic with a long fuse and 4 locked padlocks, hinting at some of the features to come. Stakes are fairly modest, starting at 10 c/p and going up to £/€20 per spin.

Symbols are suitably gold mine themed. The low pay card suits – diamonds, hearts, clubs and spades have been designed to look like precious gems. The five high pay symbols in ascending order are lanterns, shovels/picks, helmet, a bag of nuggets, and miner worth 15 times the stake. Winning combinations are formed of three or more of a kind, except for the miner who only needs two or more. When it comes to volatility, this is as high as it gets with a 5/5 rating from the developers combined with decent potential returns. The game’s RTP of 95.7% is not amazing, but the high hit rate provides fairly frequent wins which keeps the game fresh and interesting while players pound away with a pickaxe for the big score. What helps boost staying power is the way the features have been designed to fall in sequence.

Dynamite Riches (Red Tiger): Features

gold fever
The 4 different special features

Included in Dynamite Riches are 3 different wilds. The gold bar, dynamite bundle and diamond symbols all substitute for the regular symbols and pay 15 times the stake for a five of a kind combination. Now, when the bundle of dynamites symbol lands, it burns a length of the dynamite’s fuse above the reels. Land enough wilds and that dynamite explodes and unlocks a padlocked Special feature of which there are four:

  • The first releases a detonator blast which prevents all low pay symbols from landing on the reels.
  • The second shakes the mine so that random wilds rain down onto the reels.
  • The third is a compass that spins to provide multipliers up to x10.
  • The final padlock unleashes 2×2 and 3×3 Mega Wilds on the game.

When one of these features is triggered, it takes effect on the next spin only. After that one spin, the game continues as normal. Also of note, the three Wilds – the dynamite, Random Wild and Mega Wild payout 15 times the stake if five land on a payline.

On top of all that Dynamite Riches also has a Gold Spins symbol up its sleeve as the scatter. This symbol can appear on any reel and when 3 or more land then they trigger 8 bonus spins. Each additional Gold Spins symbol over the minimum required awards 2 more bonus spins. The round can also be retriggered by landing 3 or more scatters. During the Gold Spins round, all the special features are in play throughout.

Dynamite Riches (Red Tiger): Verdict

In Red Tiger’s own words, the Dynamite Riches slot provides ‘guaranteed entertainment.’ However, after a solid session we can conclude that it’s hard to land three scatters and prove the bold claim. Of course, You never know quite how your luck is going to go so perhaps it just wasn’t our night. Yet, it appears that this isn’t an isolated incident. Other members of the gaming community have mentioned a lack of scatters and bonus rounds in previous Red Tiger releases.

Fortunately that didn’t completely kill the game, and overall we had a fairly satisfactory session with Dynamite Riches. What saved it was the hit rate which provides motivation to continually hit the spin button and keep things ticking along. The four features also lengthen the game’s shelf life, and the way they are triggered by dynamite is a nice use of the theme. Staying power is further bolstered by Dynamite Riches’ max potential of over 5,000 times the stake which is a respectable haul of nuggets, and worthy of a solid dig. It is highly volatile so keep that in mind if you are trying to run down those elusive scatters symbols.

There is a steep drop off in interest levels after unlocking the four features though. Until then the anticipation to see exactly how they will affect the game (and how much you will win) is a strong incentive to keep spinning. Once you have seen them, well, unless Wild West-themed slots are your thing, then it is easy to pack up the search and go home.

Altogether, Red Tiger has put together a respectable game. When it comes to the theme there is a surprisingly large number of slots in the Gold Mining category. Despite the competition, Dynamite Riches is one of the better options from the bunch. With its high volatility and win rate, not to mention the potential, Dynamite Riches its worth heading underground for a test run.
