Durian Dynamite (Quickspin): Review
Sometimes, you just want a slot to distract you for a few minutes. Being in charge of a whimsical factory full of fresh, exotic fruits is a fun way to kill a bit of time, and if entertainment is what you’re seeking, there’s plenty of it here. Durian Dynamite is also Quickspin’s first ever shot at creating a 3D-rendered game, although it was necessary for the developers to mix in flat 2D effects inside a 3D world to keep production cost down.
With a funky soundtrack, cartoon-style graphics and a colour palette that packs more pigment than Tintoretto’s Miracle of the Slave, the real star of the show in this 5-reel, 20-payline slot from Quickspin is the Durian. Representing the all-important wild symbol, the Durian is a fruit native to Sumatra and Borneo that, similar to the 2015 viral ‘The Dress’ phenomenon (is it gold or is it blue?), seems to divide people into two camps. Some find the fragrance pleasantly sweet whereas others find it unpleasant and overpowering.
Playable from 0.20 to 100€ per spin across all devices, Quickspin has left you in control of its wacky fruit jam factory where an intricate system of pipes is used to transport your winning combos. It’s a busy place filled to the brim with fruity features, so stay alert. The Dynamite Launch feature is a fruit fest that will reward you with a hail of wilds, and if you want more of that, the Free Spins feature is the vitamin-c injection you need.
Chirpy and vibrant, on the reels you’ll see A to 10 royals along with a set of fruits, namely cherries, grapes, plums and oranges. The watermelon is the most lucrative symbol, giving you 25 times your stake for 5 across a full payline. As mentioned before, the durian fruit is the wild. It performs the usual duties of replacing all symbols bar the scatter and will give you 50 times your stake for 5 across a full payline.
Durian Dynamite (Quickspin): Features
Aside from the regular durian wild, there’s also a Dynamite Wild which appears only on the Dynamite Reels (recognised by the red funnels). When it lands on the reels, the Dynamite Wild triggers the Dynamite Launch feature where you’ll see these special durians launched onto the reels from the Dynamite Supply located to the left of the reel set.
This can set off a chain reaction if you hit a wild, splitting them to give you 1 regular wild and 3 spread regular wilds. If one of the spreading wilds hit an existing Dynamite Wild it will give you 1 regular wild and 2 spread regular wilds. If it sounds confusing, it’s really not once you see the feature in action.
Though there is a max win of 1000 times your stake to pocket in the main game, the Free Spins feature, which is initiated by landing 3 bonus jars, is where this fruit factory goes really wild. Starting with 6 free spins, it comes with loads of extra stinky (or pleasantly sweet, whichever you prefer), durian wilds. Before it all begins, however, you’re invited to the Bonus Picker feature where up to 6 picks can be awarded to uncover the following extras:
- Dynamite Supply: this can give you up to 2 additional Durians to use for the Durian Launch feature.
- Dynamite Reels: win a maximum of activated 3 Dynamite Reels.
- Free Spins: collect up to 30 extra free spins.
Durian Dynamite (Quickspin): Verdict
Though Durian Dynamite is not a game that follows in the footsteps of other games, it undoubtedly appears as if the developers have glanced at Jammin’ Jars a bit – the funky upbeat soundtrack, the fruit-theme (bonus jars) and the overall whimsical style. It’s barely perceptible, however, and the overall experience you get here is wholly an original one.
If the game comes across as complex or confusing, fear not stranger. This fruity Quickspin offering is simple once you get going – it all comes down to the wilds that multiply to give you more wilds. Durian Dynamite is as volatile as Quickspin slots come, though there’s one little factor that turns the sweetness of this enjoyable game a tad bit sour – the relatively low 2515,25x max win.
With that said, it’s actually not a deal breaker in this particular case as the entertaining and innovative gameplay makes up for what it lacks in potential. Furthermore, with the RTP evenly distributed, it makes for an all-around balanced slot. Like the aforementioned durian, some will hate it whereas others will love it. It all comes down to taste. We quite enjoyed it and wouldn’t mind another bite actually.
If you’re looking for a Quickspin slot with higher winning potential, we suggest you take a look at Golden Glyph. Played on a 7×7 grid, players can land wins of up to 13,000 times the stake.
