Dragon Born Megaways

Dragon Born Megaways (Big Time Gaming): Overview

It’s true that dragons have been utilised in many entertainment outlets, be that films, television series, books or comics. Yet, Big Time Gaming wasn’t about to let that be the only way possible to experience the carnage and destruction of such creatures. Enter Dragon Born, a slot that not only gave birth to the legendary Megaways engine, but also utilises high-definition graphics, intriguing animations and a whole host of special features to ensure that players have a truly entertaining time. Let’s be honest, the fact that the game incorporates dragons into its theme is compelling enough, but once you start playing this one, you will have a hard time closing it down.

Visually, it all surrounds a medieval fairy-tale, with the green landscape, soaring mountains and blue skies on display in the background of the game. Then, upon the reels, you’ll see its various symbols, which start out with the playing card additions. These run from the aqua 9 through to the purple A. Next in line is a blue goblet, followed by a shining mirror. There are also four character symbols – the knight dressed in green, the lady dressed in blue, the king in red and the queen in purple. She can multiply your wager by up to 4 times your stake over. There’s also a green banner symbol, a blue gemstone and a red gemstone. However, it’s the symbol of the dragon that operates as the highest paying standard addition in this game, which can multiply your bet by up to 84 times your stake.

Dragon Born utilises a Megaways layout that consists of 6 reels which generate a random number of symbols between 2 and 7 symbols high on each spin to give you up to 117,649 ways to win when fully expanded, making it bigger than what is considered the norm for video slots. Naturally, this is not a part of the game that you have the possibility of customising, but you are still able to adjust your overall wager. Simply utilise the left and right buttons in the bottom-left corner to set your bets between 0.20 and €/£40 per spin.

Dragon Born Megaways (Big Time Gaming): Features

You certainly can’t have an online slot that surrounds the dragon theme without some entertaining special features also being included in it. Fortunately, the Dragon Born slot doesn’t disappoint in this area. The first of its perks that we need to talk about has to be the Full Reel Wilds. These count as up to seven icons  and will substitute for any symbol on the reels, with the exception of the scatter addition. It’s the female court jester that operates as the slot’s base game wild.

Not only does she substitute, but these wilds will multiply your pay-out up to 7x over whenever they are involved in winning combinations. Something else to note about these is that if multiple Full Reel Wilds contribute to a win, then they will multiply each other. So, if two of them with multipliers of 7x attached occur in a win, a multiplier of 49x would be in effect for your pay-out!

We also recommend watching out for the arrival of the diamond symbols, because these are the scatter symbols. You’ll receive a payout from these wherever they show up on the reels, but you’ll need to ensure that at least 3 of them are in view to activate the Free Spins round. You’ll get 6 free spins in this instance, but 12 are provided for 4 scatters, 25 for 5 scatters and a huge total of 50 for the appearance of 6 scatters. During this feature, an Alternative Wild Symbol can also come into operation. This one will substitute for all other standard symbols on the reels, with the only exception being the scatter. Speaking of which, if the diamond scatter appears while free spins is in effect, it will reward you with an extra free spin on top of your current total.

Dragon Born Megaways (Big Time Gaming): Verdict

As a Megaways offering, Dragon Born stands out as quite unique compared to the rest of the lot and we must say that Big Time Gaming got most of it right on their first shot incorporating their legendary Megaways engine. At the core are the dynamic reels, of course, but the multiplier wilds brings a lot of excitement as well as they give you the impression of being able to land massive wins. That, however, is the downside with this slot. In spite of its promising premise, it just doesn’t seem to pay very well. In fact, as a Megaways slot it’s probably one of the least potent. If you want to play something similar, we recommend trying Queen of Riches from the same provider which has several confirmed hits over around 20,000 times the stake.

Being the first Megaways slot and all, Dragon Born will always remain a classic. If there ever was a slots hall of fame, it would probably have its own chamber. It may not receive as much love today as it did when it came out, and there isn’t very much left to explore here since it has become obvious by now that there are no boundaries left to push in terms of the relatively low payouts. With that having been said, we’re always taken by surprise how entertaining it is to play whenever we go back for a walk down memory lane.
