Dinosaur Rage

Dinosaur Rage: Slot Overview

After a lengthy hiatus, the raven-haired heroine Anna the Explorer is back for her second adventure in Quickspin’s slot Dinosaur Rage. We first met Anna scouring the ruins of Ancient Egypt in Ark of Mystery. Now, she’s rewound the clock to a time when tyrannical lizards ruled planet earth. We don’t find out quite how Anna got there, just that she’s battling enraged dinos, wielding only a machete – she’s one brave lady. On the gaming side of things, players get the chance to win a shed load more than was possible in Anna’s first slot, utilising pay-anywhere symbols, nudges, free spins, and multipliers.

Dinosaur Rage has a pretty neat story behind it that’s worth retelling. Quickspin started the journey by looking at Tiger’s Glory to see how they could rehash its pay-anywhere engine. The next step was theme. You know how loads of kids go through a phase of being obsessed with all things dinosaur-related? It turns out it wasn’t just Ross Gellar who carried this passion into adulthood. One of Quickspin’s artists is also fixated with the giant beasts. The two elements combined, and presto, we have Dinosaur Rage.

Passion is evident in the whole project, turning out to be a top vehicle for Anna’s second adventure. It’s been a while too. A couple of years have passed since her debut, but it doesn’t look like she’s aged a day. If anything, time has added extra radiance, while sharpening her cheekbones into a sort of golden egg hunting Megan Fox. The rest of the game is just as easy on the eyes and includes a bright prehistoric background for the 5-reel, 1,024 pay way grid, full of silky animations and a cluster of great effects. Factor in the lettering from the title, plus the lizards of course, and the result is a fun Lara Croft meets Jurassic Park mashup. Having said that, some might be turned of by the rather childish looks (which is a Quickspin trademark), so it won’t be for everyone’s taste.

A raging theme gets raging volatility, rated 5 out of 5 by Quickspin so it couldn’t be any higher. This ought to suit dedicated gamblers, as should RTP which has a default value of 96.11%, getting higher when shelling out for the feature buy. Buying the bonus is tempting indeed since impressive returns are available from them, but the base game supplies a few tricks of its own. Taking on the dinos with Anna is possible on any device where bets from 20 p/c to £/€100 can be set.

Speaking of Anna, she is the most valuable symbol at 5x the bet for five of a kind and comes in 1×4 size. If Anna symbols land fully in view, then they pay in any position. The four dinosaur premiums appear in 1×2- 1×4 size and are worth 1.75 to 2.5x the bet for five. These ones only pay anywhere when they are enraged – more on that in a moment. Appropriately, bones and teeth have been used to design the 10-A card royals, used to round off the lower end of the paytable.

Dinosaur Rage: Slot Features

Quickspin set out to perform tricks with pay-anywhere symbols, so expect them to appear during free spins and the base game – to a lesser degree. Pay-anywhere literally means what it says. Symbols pay for the number of instances present on a way, even if they are not adjacent to each other. In the base game, this only occurs when Anna the Explorer covers an entire reel. What helps here is Anna symbols may be randomly nudged to cover the whole reel, triggering the feature.

Pay-anywhere really comes alive during Dinosaur Rage! Free Spins, triggered when 3 or more scatters land anywhere in view. The number of free spins you win amounts to 10, 15 or 25 when 3, 4, or 5 scatters are in view – as well as receiving 1, 2 or 3 upgrades, respectively.

Each upgrade makes a random dinosaur enraged, meaning they get the pay-anywhere ability. Scatters remain available during the bonus, so landing 3 or more awards the number of free spins and upgrades mentioned above. When all dinosaurs are enraged, each upgrade increases the win multiplier by +1.

Where possible, Dinosaur Rage may ship with a bonus buy feature. There are two options– a 75x bet or 150x bet, providing 3 or 4 scatters respectively on the next spin. Engaging this feature increases the RTP to 96.75% or 96.95%. Other than upping RTP, the bonus game plays out in the same way as triggering it organically.

Dinosaur Rage: Slot Verdict

From Ancient Egypt, where pretty much all slots adventurers begin their career, to the steaming jungle of the Cretaceous period, how did Anna fare on her second outing? Pretty well in just about all regards. Ark of Mystery marked a time of transition for Quickspin into more volatility/higher potential territory, and they’ve pushed things significantly further in Dinosaur Rage. They kind of had to really; it would’ve been weird to pair enraged beasts with anything less.

First on the block are aesthetics, where Quickspin has effectively mixed terror with sex appeal to create an enjoyable B-movie feel. The audio-visual standard is high, as you’d expect from Quickspin’s fantastic effects team. On the whole, the pay-anywhere engine is a success as well – from the odd tease during the base game, to full-on havoc in free spins. The mechanic snowballs well too, so not only do free spin retriggers add more enraged dinosaurs, they pull the all-important multiplier into the mix. Without the multipliers though, it’ll be tough to turn up anything significant, meaning also the base game can lack some excitement. Increase the multipliers, and Dinosaur Rage can get interesting – to the tune of 17,794 times your stake.

Fittingly, Anna’s second slot is much more of a beast than the first. Quickspin has jacked every virtually every aspect of Ark of Mystery to create a highly entertaining trip back in time for the sequel.
