Deal or No Deal Megaways Golden Box: Slot Overview

Developer Blueprint Gaming squeeze some extra mileage out of their DOND license with Deal or No Deal Megaways Golden Box. In a game bearing one of the longest titles ever, Blueprint follows up on its 2019 DOND Megaways release with a new Golden Box feature. Since the thrill of Deal or No Deal predominately revolves around opening boxes to reveal prizes, a Golden Box sounds quite intriguing. In practice, it’s not an overly sophisticated innovation, but it does add a new dimension. As ever, it’s the players’ job to hold their nerve, gamble, bluff, whatever they need to do to beat the banker on the other end of the phone line.

Visually, Golden Box looks the same as the previous game. Taking up most of the space on the screen is a 6-reel Megaways grid, surrounded by flashing lights, creating a live gaming vibe. The TV show was hyper intense at times, and the slot version manages to mirror the effect, making moments like box selection nail-biting indeed. It’s all a bit of fun for those with the slightest bit of interest in the show to lose themselves in.

As mentioned, the game is played on a Megaways grid where the main 6 reels can hold between 2-7 symbols each, while the horizontal bonus reel along the top always displays 4. The total number of symbols alternates on each spin producing from 324 to 117,649 ways to win.

Players can beat the banker by selecting bets from 20 p/c to £/€10 per spin, on any device. Despite looking the same visually, there have been a few modifications behind the scenes. One thing which hasn’t changed is RTP rated 95.34%, which is below average, yet understandable in a way being a branded slot and all. Volatility, as before, isn’t crazy brutal, possibly making the game more appealing for a broader audience.

The paytable uses the same symbols as before too. On the low side, players get 9-A royals in a silver metallic design. As to the premiums, they are made up of cups, seals, letters and boxes, worth 2 to 50 times the stake. All of the symbols need at least three of a kind to form a winning combination, except for the top-paying box; this one only needs two or more to pay out. Rounding off this section is the wild symbol, appearing only on the upper bonus reel. Its job is to substitute for any of the regular pays to help make a winning combination.

Deal or No Deal Megaways Golden Box: Slot Features

It’s a case of the same as before plus a little bit extra when it comes to Golden Box’s features. Leading off are Mystery Symbols, followed by cascades, and the bonus trail which awards several different, yet similar, features.

First up is the question mark Mystery Symbol. Whenever these symbols are in view on the reels, they all transform into the same matching symbol. Next, on each win the Cascade feature pops winning symbols off the board, so new ones can drop in for extra chances. Consecutive hits can occur off a single spin as the Cascade mechanic continues to function as long as wins keep landing.

Cascades also play into the next bunch of features. To the left of the reels is the Bonus Trail where 4, 5, or 6 consecutive cascades award the DOND Bonus, Super Bonus, or Mega Bonus, respectively.

Play then shifts to a new screen displaying 22 boxes in the middle of the screen while prizes are listed on either side. Players choose boxes to reveal prizes which are removed from the list. At regular intervals, the banker calls up to make a cash offer. Players can accept it, ending the round, or reject it to keep selecting boxes. When there are two left, players are awarded the prize from the first box they selected. The difference between the three bonus games is that you are more likely to win free spins or higher cash prizes in the later rounds.

Seven or more consecutive cascades awards the brand new Deal or No Deal Golden Box feature. Basically, players choose one of 3 golden boxes to win up to 30 instant free spins. The Golden Box can also be won from the Mega Round.

During free spins, up to 100 Mystery symbols are added before each spin, and a win multiplier enters the game. This multiplier begins on x1 and increases by +1 on every cascade. Free spins can be retriggered.

Deal or No Deal Megaways Golden Box: Slot Verdict

Like the previous DOND Megaways, Blueprint Gaming has done a great job of recreating the tension and excitement of the show it’s modelled on. From the bright graphics to the heartbeat-like sounds, the slot faithfully recreates the tension. Fans of the show (mainly a UK thing) will have a blast, as will any player into Megaways and a bit of box picking action. Perhaps the only people let down by the Golden Box edition are those who were expecting some major functional upgrades. Then again the DOND formula has been a winner for years, so it’s almost sacrilege to tinker too much.

As to the new Golden Box feature, it doesn’t add a whole lot which wasn’t there already. For one, it is tricky to trigger, so players are unlikely to see it often. It means they are left playing more or less the same slot as before – with a couple of significant statistical changes. Which is fine, it’s still delivers plenty of action. Blueprint has created a slick game that is highly engrossing when you’re deep into the box picking segment of the game, trying to see just how far you can push the banker.

When the Golden Box is activated, there is a much greater opportunity of picking up big payouts with so many free spins to jack up the win multiplier. It’s here players have the best chance of cracking the game’s potential of 10,000 times the bet.

To sum up, everything pretty much remains the same with the exception of the Golden Box game. At its core, DOND Megaways Golden Box offers all the thrills of the popular show. In a nutshell, pick a decent box, and you’ll do well, if not, then the consolation prizes aren’t so exciting.

While not a huge amount has changed since the last DOND Megaways, the new feature should be enough to tempt followers of the format into taking on the banker again.
