Cash Pump

Cash Pump (Play’n GO): Overview

You have to hand it to them. In spite of the unceasingly intense production rate with up to four scheduled releases per month, Play’n GO still manages to maintain a surprisingly high level of quality. What’s even more impressive maybe, is their ability to add just enough twist to the flavour, be it through the audiovisual presentation or the mechanics, to stay relevant and on top of the game. Sure, they have stirred up a lot of controversy within the industry by shamelessly cloning the works of other providers, but strangely enough, it only seems to have worked to their advantage – at least when looking at it from the outside.

If you’ve never seen a video slot in the shape of a gas pump, well, here’s one for you then. Before you say it’s a ridiculous idea, just try to imagine all the great promotional slogans casinos and the generic affiliate sites out there will be able to fire off! – “It’s time to put the pedal to the metal” or “Buckle up and get ready to ride“, the options are endless. Whatever the case, one thing is for sure – Cash Pump is a high-octane slot that’s not only extremely volatile (see, we can do it too), it also comes with a win potential that is double that of what you typically see in Play’n GO slots.

The first thing you’re likely to notice, however, may not be the unusual gas pump design, but the layout of the reels. Made up of four 3×3 separate grid slots, you can match 3 symbols across any of the 20 paylines (5 paylines on each) on all four grids to land a win. During your session, stacked wilds may duplicate themselves and spread across all four grids while also activating a random multiplier of up to 4x. The game also benefits from a free spins round with unlimited retriggers and win multipliers. You can play it from 0.20 to €/£100 per spin across all devices.

On the visual side of things, there’s a 50s kind of retro vibe going, possibly inspired in part by Evel Knievel. Set against a backdrop of what could very well be the legendary Route 66, the lower-paying symbols spinning on the reels are comprised of a collection of classic fruit slot symbols, namely cherries, oranges, plums and watermelons. Of significantly higher value are the game’s two only premium symbols which are presented by triple lucky 7s and bar symbols. These will give you 2.5 or 5 times your stake respectively for a 3 of a kind combination.

Cash Pump (Play’n GO): Features

Free spins feature in action

Central to the gameplay in Cash Pump is the daredevil wild with the image of a grinning stunt performer. Appearing only on the centre reel of each set, it not only carries out the usual duties of the wild, but it also has extraordinary abilities. Dubbed the Stacked Wilds feature, whenever a full stack of wilds lands on the middle position of any of the four sets, it clones itself across all grids to help you land winning combinations. Moreover, a random multiplier of between 1x – 4x is applied as well.

To unlock Cash Pump’s true potential, you will have to see one scatter symbol appearing on the centre reel of each grid set. Starting with 7 Free Spins, collecting another 4 scatters during the feature awards an additional 5 free spins. Better yet, each retrigger also doubles the value of the four active random multipliers seen in the multiplier gauge (which are positioned directly above grid number 2). The first retrigger will thus increase the multipliers accordingly: 1x becomes 2x, 2x becomes 4x, 3x becomes 6x, and 4x becomes 8x. Landing yet another retrigger will repeat this pattern, with no limit to how high the multipliers can reach. The maximum win potential, on the other hand, is limited to 10,000 times your stake, which is far higher than usual when it comes to Play’n GO.

Cash Pump (Play’n GO): Verdict

Cash Pump is undoubtedly unique coming from Play’n GO, but most veteran gamblers will have seen similar layouts before as it has been widely used by WMS in the past. If you want a more recent example, something along the lines can also be found in Luck O’ The Irish from Blueprint Gaming. If you’re unfamiliar with those slots, don’t waste your time researching them. The fact is that Cash Pump is much better in almost every way. The unlimited win multiplier, for example, is a timely addition that has become extremely popular – faster than you know it, the multiplier can skyrocket to extreme levels, drastically intensifying the action.

Generally speaking, we’re not big fans of the split grid approach and usually tend to avoid those games. Nevertheless, Cash Pump is original enough to make us want to explore all 16 corners of it and the high potential and volatility is, of course, hard to resist for any hardcore gambler. Furthermore, the 96.86% RTP is unusually generous (unless you’re playing at a casino that has it set to the lower 94.75% RTP option) and can help make it bearable in spite of the high volatility. To speak in automobile terminology –  Cash Pump is not a slot intended for road trips along senic coastal roads, but rather one you take to the racing circuit to push it to the limits.
