Candyways Bonanza Megaways: Slot Overview
Hurricane Games is one of those enigmatic studios with minimal online presence making it hard to delve deep into their operation. They probably would have stayed off the grid even longer if they hadn’t partnered up with the more established crowd at Stakelogic. Candyways Bonanza Megaways is the second collaboration between the two companies. Here, players head to a cotton-candy world full of sweets and multipliers in a game powered by Big Time Gaming’s ever so popular Megaways engine.
In what can only be described as a Candy Crush inspired world, the developer has gone for an unusual, yet not entirely unique, 3-reel Megaways grid to host the game. It’s located in one of those candy land environments that pop up in slots, all ice creams, swirls, and sweets on the reels. The tooth aching dreamland is completed by some low key music quietly doing its thing unobtrusively in the background.
Candyways Bonanza Megaways is available across all devices and can be played by setting bets of 10 p/c to £/€10 per spin. Bear in mind this is the base bet level. Candyways Bonanza Megaways comes with Stakelogic’s Super Stake feature which increases the cost of each paid spin. Governing the sugar-coated action is a medium-high volatile math model that can reach some rather dizzying heights of potential when pushed to its limit, or, be unforgiving. In the long run, a solid RTP rating of 96.01% helps even things out.
This being Megaways, the number of symbols on each reel changes on every spin, in this case from 2 to 8. There are no paylines, so wins occur when three matching symbols land on adjacent reels. If more than three matching symbols are on the reels, they multiply the amount. This mechanic gives players 8 to 512 ways to win. No guesses what the pay symbols are – all plastic-looking candies in various shapes and colours. The first five are the lower-paying lot worth 0.2 to 1 times the bet, while the remaining two are a red heart and a gold star. These latter two are worth 2x or 5x the stake, respectively. That’s it for the regular symbols, there is no wild, which leaves just two specials to cover in the next section.
Candyways Bonanza Megaways: Slot Features
One feature that often appears alongside Megaways, cascades/reactions, has been omitted so consecutive wins are not possible in Candyways Bonanza Megaways. In its place, the team has added a gamble option which comes as standard on most Stakelogic titles. It is joined by a triggered number of free spins where multiplier symbols come into play.
The chocolaty sweet ball thing is the free spins scatter symbol. One can land on each reel, and 3 in view award 10 free spins. Once in, scatter symbol multipliers now come into play. When these symbols land, they each carry a multiplier of x2 to x100. If more than one is used in a win, their values are added together. Moreover, if 3 bonus symbol are in view, their values are added, applied to the win, and 10 more free spins are awarded.
Clearly, the biggest wins are going to occur during free spins and Candyways Bonanza Megaways offers two additional ways of getting to them. One guaranteed method is via the Bonus buy option. For 100x the total bet, 3 bonus symbols land on the next spin.
The second way is by increasing the odds through the Super Strike bet option. This feature appears in many Stakelogic slots, offering benefits unique to each game for an increased stake. In Candyways Bonanza Megaways, the bet increases by 50% which adds more bonus symbols to the reels, doubling the chance of triggering free spins. It also doubles the chance of landing bonus multipliers during free spins.
The last extra is a gamble game available after each win. Players choose the card colour or card suit to double, quadruple or nothing their money. Gambles can be repeated up to 5 times, or 250x the bet.
Candyways Bonanza Megaways: Slot Verdict
Candyways Bonanza Megaways is a sound second slot from the Hurricane Games/Stakelogic match up. The duo hasn’t been as cautious as many are when taking on Megaways, though Stakelogic has many of these under their belt by now so they have the experience. It’s not exactly the most original concept, it looks like Sweet Bonanza, and three reel Megaways has been done before, but on the whole, the team has been a little daring. Put it this way, Candyways Bonanza Megaways could have been a lot more conventional.
On the gaming side of things, Candyways Bonanza is a well entertaining Megaways alternative. Halving the usual 6 reel grid hasn’t halved the thrills, though some might disagree, especially since cascades aren’t used. What the smaller grid does is streamline everything, quicken the pace, and give the game an almost Donuts vibe at times. Since there is nothing extra happening in the base game, the bonus buy is a tempting proposal. Even more so when you realise wins of up to 20,000 times the bet are possible. Although nearly impossible to hit, that amount does seem technically doable, provided plenty of bonus symbols show up with generous multipliers attached.
Candyways Bonanza Megaways has qualities to entertain a variety of different players. Its sparse base game can be pretty uneventful, but the gamble feature is there for players who like to boost minor win thrills. The game’s nexus is its free spins which can go bananas when a massive multiplier or two drops from nowhere. In short, Candyways Bonanza Megaways is a deceptively good game that provokes emotional responses at odds with its seeming simplicity.
