Caishen’s Cash

Caishen’s Cash (Pragmatic Play): Review

Pragmatic Play has been keeping us busy this year and the slots have been coming in hard and fast. Most of the material has been of acceptable quality, some of it even great, but we’re also seeing a company that’s struggling a bit to step outside of the box, something that quite often results in a somewhat generic feel. This has not been helped by the fact that Pragmatic has been churning out a large number of slots related to ancient China in some way, shape or form. We barely had time to recover from the last one, 5 Lions Gold, before it was time again. Luckily, Caishen’s Cash looks much better and has more of a premium feel to it.

Caishen’s Cash is a spin-off from an earlier Pragmatic release entitled Caishen’s Gold (yes, even the titles are becoming generic) which is a rather bland low-potential slot not really worth looking into. The sequel utilises 5 reels and 243 ways to win and comes with 4 fixed Jackpots where you can win up to 1000 times your stake as well as 2 different bonus games which include a Free Spins feature played with only high-value symbols and the Money Respin feature with streak wins. You can play it on all devices from between 25 cents to 125 Euros per spin.

Based on the Chinese god of prosperity, the colour palette here is warm and dominated by red and gold to convey wealth and riches. The backdrop is made up of what appears to be a fortune well filled with glimmering gold coins, and to set the mood you’ll hear traditional Chinese music playing the background. Although it’s hard to do something fresh and new with a classic theme such as this one, we have to say that the designers have done a superb job in giving it a luxurious touch.

On the reels you will see lower value 9, 10, J, Q, K and A Chinese-style royals as well as more rewarding gold coins, Maneki-neko cats, a young girl and a young boy. The most lucrative of all symbols is Cashien himself. Land 5 of him across a full payline and you’ll get 6 times your stake. There’s also a wild symbol that only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4. It substitutes for all symbol apart from the scatter and is also central to triggering one of the features.

Caishen’s Cash (Pragmatic Play): Features

Free spins feature

Cashien’s Cash comes bundled with a set of 4 fixed jackpots with values of 25x, 50x, 100x and 1000x respectively. Whenever a wild symbol appears on the reels in the main game, it can randomly trigger the Jackpot Bonus game. If so happens, you’re taken to a new screen with a set of 12 gold coins – click them to reveal a jackpot symbol. When you match 3 of the same symbols you’re awarded the corresponding jackpot.

Another symbol that is central to the game, and which we haven’t mentioned yet, is the Money Symbol. Each money symbol that appears on the reels comes with a random cash value and when 6 or more hit, they activate the main bonus game. Here you will be presented with two options – to play the Free Spins feature or the Money Respin feature.

Starting with 8 spins, in the Free Spins feature you’ll benefit from the removal of all low-paying symbols. With only premiums and the wild symbol present on the reels, your chances of landing big wins are significantly increased. Furthermore, the money symbol mechanism applies here as well. The total value of all money symbols that activated the feature is displayed when triggering the feature and each time a wild hits during the free spins, the total value is awarded independently of other winning combinations that appear simultaneously. On the best of days, this feature can payout winnings of up to 20,000 times your total stake.

If you opt for the Money Respin feature, you’ll be taken to a new set of reels containing 15 positions where a win streak feature will be played. All the money symbols, along with their values, that triggered the feature are carried over to the new reel set. Starting with 6 respins, one or more of the following symbols can hit:

  • Green money symbol – takes the total value of all standard money symbols present on the reels and adds it to your total
  • Blue money symbol – takes the total value of all green money symbols as well as the standard ones and adds it to your total
  • 1+ respin – awards you an additional respin

All money symbols that lands in an empty position remain on the screen until the end of the bonus round. The whole shebang ends when either you run out of respins or when all positions are filled with money symbols.

Caishen’s Cash (Pragmatic Play): Verdict

Cashien’s Cash doesn’t offer anything we haven’t seen before and that goes for both the theme as well as the features. However, it’s all nicely put together and the overall production quality is high. Although we’re not generally fans of these type of games, we have to say it’s one of the better we’ve played in a while. It comes with outstanding potential, and at the same time, it’s not as brutally volatile as high paying machines often tend to be.

If you wish to go for the big bucks, the Free Spins option is what you’re looking for. If you want to play it a bit more safe, on the other hand, the Money Respin feature seemed like a somewhat more reliable choice and not quite as volatile as the free spins. As with any slot, landing the supermassive wins won’t be easy and it can go quite a while between the bonuses, but when you finally do get there, decent rewards usually awaits.
