Asgardian Stones

Asgardian Stones Slot: Overview

We’re just going to kick off by pointing out the obvious fact first. Visually, NetEnt has produced one of the most stunning video slots we’ve seen in quite a while. Booting up the game will undoubtedly cause one or two jaws to drop. But there are many amazing looking games out there that perform horribly and you can’t build a long lasting love on looks alone so how does Asgardian Stones hold up?

As the title and theme suggests, the story of the game centers around Nordic mythology. Asgardian Stones is slot that utilises 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 fixed paylines. Similar to Gonzo’s Quest, it features a reaction wins game mechanic instead of spinning reels. Symbols in winning combinations explode (are removed) and become replaced by a set of new symbols which then hopefully result in further wins. Wins are payed out if three or more symbols of the same kind, in consecutive columns starting from left, appear on a payline.

There are 9 symbols included – 5 of these are premium symbols made up of stone faces of various colors, with the red (orange?) one being the top payer. The low value symbols, meanwhile, are made out of A, K and Q royals. There is also a Wild symbol that substitute for all regular symbols.

Asgardian Stones Features

Colossal Symbols

All the symbols can also randomly appear as a Colossal version, both in the main game and the bonus. The Wild symbol however, can only appear as Colossal in the bonus. Colossal symbols are made out of 2×2 or 3×3 blocks and may or many not be displayed in full, depending on how they land on the reels. Sadly, it is not possible to have 2 or more Colossal symbols at the same time.

Colossal Crush

These are basically colossal symbols that have the power to crush the symbols beneath them, something that happens randomly. For every row crushed (if there is a previous win with the Colossal Crush), a multiplier is added going from x2 to x4. This has potential to result in some decent wins in the main game.

Bonus Wheel Feature

The Bonus Wheel is a symbol block of 3×3 symbols that can land on the last 3 reels only, in both the main game and bonus. It may land fully or partially visable in the play area which means only a few of the 8 sections on the wheel may be visable. To better explain how the wheel works we need to show a picture of the Bonus Wheel.

As can be seen, there are 3 sections with 5 free spins and the rest of the sections are made out of coin wins. The sections landing in the active fields (within the yellow area) are the prizes that will be awarded to the player. This means, for example, that a player can start the bonus with a maximum of 15 free spins, but can also miss the bonus to be awarded with coin wins instead.

Free Spins

The great thing with the bonus is that the Wild symbol appears as a colossal symbol. If a colossal wild is part of a win, it will be split up into 1×1 wild symbols. The bonus wheel can be reactivated a maximum of 3 times in the free spins, and activate a maximum of 25 additional spins in total.

Asgardian Stones Conclusion

As already mentioned, the visual designers have done a phenomenal job. The production really is spectacular and stands out from its competitors. Moreover, the game is smooth to play and we could not find any annoyances that could potentially ruin the experience. With that having been said, there are some flaws as well. For example, the base game just doesn’t seem to give good enough returns which can be very frustrating and the bonus is over before it starts whenever you’re awarded only 5 spins. Low to medium variance, don’t expect any massive payouts either.
