Aliya’s Wishes

Aliya’s Wishes: Overview

Move over Ali Baba, there is a new ‘savvy thief’ in town – the sassy, vivacious Aliya. The heroine of this tale has acquired a magical lamp that emitted a genie to literally grant Aliya’s wishes. What else would a fortune hunter want – treasure right? So the genie spirited her into a palace to nab whatever takes her fancy. On the way, Aliya became smitten by the Prince and dragged into a royal conspiracy. Toss in an evil Vizier, a plot to overthrow the Sultan, and Aliya has suddenly become side tracked saving the city and winning the heart of her new squeeze.

Got all that? Believe it or not, this is the plotline of the video slot Aliya’s Wishes from Fortune Factor Studios and not a new novel from Jojo Moyes. The Microgaming partner studio does like to construct a complex web and populate it with three-dimensional characters, well, two dimensional perhaps. Talk is cheap when it comes to slots though, and if the gameplay is drowned in too much back story, it can miss the mark.

The good news is that the gameplay is rather good. It helps that Microgaming has flicked them the Rolling Reels/Multiplier Trail combo that was put to good use in Jungle Jim. Even better news, for certain players, is that Fortune Factor hasn’t just injected the engine into a Middle Eastern setting, but has juiced up several of its elements considerably.

For some concrete figures to back up the bluster, volatility is officially rated as high, while RTP clocks in at 96.0% on default mode. With the integrated Win Booster feature this number is bumped up to 96.5%. The Win Booster is an optional extra that doubles the base bet when activated for the added benefit of increasing the Multiplier Trail multiplier values. More on that in a minute.

Playable across all devices from 10 p/c up to £/€30 per spin, Aliya’s Wishes is a high variance slot played using 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 fixed paylines. Rules are pretty simple; players look to land winning combos of three or more of a kind on the grid. Aliya’s Wishes provides players ten regular pay symbols to make the magic happen.

In ascending symbol order, we find jugs, books, bags of emeralds, scrolls, daggers, the Sultan, the Vizier, the Prince, Aliyah, and a genie. The purple lamp dweller offers the best returns at 15 times the stake, while the other character symbols vary from 3.2x to 5x the stake. The treasure chest wild also doles out the same rewards as the genie, as well as being able to substitute for any symbol except the free spins scatter.

Aliya’s Wishes: Features

The great thing about Rolling Reels is that they keep the base game interesting, not to mention potentially lucrative. How Rolling Reels work is that when a winning combination lands, the symbols detonate off the screen to let new ones tumble down to cause a potential chain reaction of winners.

Rolling Reels tie in with the Multiplier Trail, which means every win receives a multiplier boost that increases with each roll starting at x1 and then multiplied by x2, x3, and x5 on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th spin respectively. However, if you choose to activate the Win Booster, then the Multiplier Trial pays out x2, x5, x8, and x21 instead. Rolls continue to occur until no new winning symbols land and the next new spin can begin.

This dynamic duo of features gets even better during Free Spins which are triggered when three or more lamp scatters are in view. The amount of free spins awarded is 10, 15, or 20 when 3, 4, or 5 scatters land respectively. During free spins, Multiplier Trail values are x2, x5, x8, and x21 in default mode, or x5, x12, x21, and x50 with the Win Booster active. The final piece of good news is that free spins can be retriggered by landing 3 or more scatters.

Aliya’s Wishes: Verdict

First off it has to be said that Aliya’s Wishes is a great looking game that is as fun to play as any others that use Microgaming’s Rolling Reels/Avalanche feature. Aliya’s Wishes might use a proven mechanic, but it is far from being a watered-down Jungle Jim in the desert slot.

Fortune Factor Studios has made more than enough changes to ensure Aliya’s Wishes is a very different experience, in several regards. For one, it has become more of a playground for those that like things more volatile, with the much higher Multiplier Trail turning it into a different ball game altogether. The highlight is hitting the 4th consecutive win during free spins when the Win Booster is activated. Factor in the 50x multiplier and genies can grant solid wins quick smart.

Since everything else is dialed up, it might surprise you to know that the most you can win playing Aliya’s Wishes is 3,119 times your stake, which is practically the same as Jungle Jim’s. Maximum potential might be a little disappointing perhaps, but it is up there with other competitors in this niche. Aliya’s Wishes is a much more volatile slot though, so bankrolls can certainly bounce around like a flying carpet in turbulence.

Players who like the theme, but prefer more potential might like to try Fortunes of Ali Baba from Play’n GO. Not quite so feature-rich and fun as Aliya’s Wishes perhaps, yet offering more than double the potential might sway those aspiring lamp rubbers out there. Other than that, the rest of Aliya’s Wishes has been well made; the result is an entertaining slot that has taken some familiar features and given them a satisfying shuffle.
